Reno airport traffic down in April

The Associated Press

RENO, Nev. ” Passenger counts at Reno-Tahoe International Airport fell 14 percent in April compared with the same month last year.

But airport officials say the decline at least was less than in the previous three months, when passenger totals were off more than 20 percent compared with 2008.

Airport spokesman Brian Kulpin says the return to Reno this year of the United States Bowling Congress Tournament helped boost passenger counts. The tournament that began in April and runs through July adds about 10,000 passengers monthly.

Officials say there were 17 fewer departures per day in April than the same month last year, and five fewer destinations.
