Reno-area customers face water rate increase

The Associated Press

RENO, Nev. ” Water rates are going up for 93,000 homes and businesses in the Reno area.

Beginning June 1, customers on meters will see their bills increased by an average of about $1.10 per month. Flat-rate customers will see a larger increase of about $9.30 per month.

In approving the increase Thursday, the Truckee Meadows Water Authority board cited rising costs and the need to protect the utility’s bonding capacity.

The rate increase was the first approved by the board in four years.

In an unrelated matter, the water board on Thursday reaffirmed its opposition to pending state legislation that would require flouride in public drinking water.

Washoe County voters in 2002 rejected a ballot question to flouridate the water.
