Reno resident killed on Mount Rose Highway

Merry Thomas. Sun News Service

INCLINE VILLAGE – Investigation is ongoing in a fatal accident that occurred Thursday, March 28 at about 6 p.m. on Mount Rose Highway.

Michele Stone, 35, of Reno, was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple injuries resulting when her 1984 Chevrolet suburban collided with trees.

“That had to be quite a bit of force,” said Washoe County Coroner Vernon McCarty. Stone was driving eastbound toward Reno on clear roads, according to Nevada Highway Patrol trooper J. Troy Lindley.

Stone was the only occupant of the vehicle when it crashed. Investigators and the NHP accident reconstructionist requests anyone who might have information about the accident to come forward.

A white male driving a green Dodge pickup with tool boxes and ladder rack was at the scene but left before completing a statement, according to highway patrol officials. The NHP is interested in talking further with this driver.

Officials said they don’t know at this point if alcohol or drugs were involved, and a toxicology report can take several weeks.

Fatalities take in-depth investigation, Lindley said, much like homicides. “We’re eager to uncover the cause and to help the public avoid these accidents,” he added.

The full investigation, however, may not be complete for a month.
