Rental firm pretrial hearing postponed
The pretrial hearing for a former partner of Truckee-based Vacation Property Management was scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed while authorities continue to search for co-owner Dean A. Clark.
Lori Koester, a former Tahoe Donner resident and rental firm co-owner, was taken into custody, booked and released on April 14 after pleading not guilty to 46 counts of felony grand theft.
Koester and Clark were expected to be arraigned in February, but vanished until April when Nevada County Deputy District Attorney Bill Cornell received a phone call from a Sacramento-based defense attorney stating he would surrender Koester at the Nevada County Superior Court.
Despite Koester’s appearance in April, there is still no information on Clark’s whereabouts, Cornell said.
“The hearing was postponed with the hope that Mr. Clark will end up in custody in the near future,” Cornell said.
Truckee property owners and ski lease tenants lost a combined $100,000 when the rental firm unexpectedly closed its doors last spring and was later charged with 46 counts of grand theft.
Koester posted bail in April and is set to appear in court again on August 19 for the suspended pretrial hearing.
