Report: Nevada County unemployment rate creeps up

GRASS VALLEY, Calif. and#8212; After a one-month respite from rising unemployment, the ranks of those out-of-work in Nevada County rose in May, to 11.2 percent, based on preliminary figures released by the state Employment Development Department.

The rate in April stood at 10.7 percent, ending a months-long march of continued increased unemployment in the county.

The preliminary rate for May is the highest in Nevada County in decades.
