Reporter joins Sierra Sun

Erich Sommer has joined the Sierra Sun newsroom as town reporter. He will be covering town government, the airport, environmental issues and other areas as needed.

Sommer is moving back to Truckee after three years in Mendocino County. He lived in the Willits area after moving from Truckee in 1998.

Prior to that, Sommer lived in and around Truckee from 1993 to 1998. He worked at the Rainbow Lodge, Northstar-at-Tahoe, TNT Materials and Sierra Mountain Middle School.

Sommers looks forward to the challenge of reporting on the intricacies of local government, water and environmental issues and how development is affecting Truckee.

Sommer holds a Bachelors of Arts in Geography from Humboldt State University.

He has also worked as a reporter at The Willits News in Willits,Calif. There he covered sports, education and crime beats. Sommer currently lives in Kings Beach with his girlfriend, their dog and two cats.
