Ride of the Week: 2007 Prior Khyber Splitboard

When it comes to longer tours the splitboard really shines. It keeps the weight on the ground, not on your back, and provides more floatation when you are hiking in the snow.

More and more companies are making them. They used to be really flimsy but now they are making stiffer boards comparable to those (you ride) at resorts.

They have allowed snowboarders to have more access and go further to the backcountry.

It is interesting because (modern) skiing has taken a lot from snowboarding like wider skis and turned tails. Now snowboarding has taken a hint from backcountry skiing, but it has taken a while.
