RIDE OF THE WEEK: The Ride: 2007 Ford Excape Hybrid The Owner: Town of Truckee
How often do you use the vehicle?
We use it almost every day ” it comes in very handy. It’s been great because before we had to use the big police vehicles to drive around town. We also use it to drive to the Bay Area for training.
When did you get the vehicle?
How many miles have you put on the vehicle since then?
About 10,000 miles.
Why did the department decide to purchase the vehicle?
We wanted a low-emissions vehicle. The Town on Truckee is really big on going green.
Is the department trying to set an example by using a hybrid vehicle?
We are trying to be more environmentally conscious and hope other people can follow.
How was the Police Department able to purchase the vehicle?
We were able to get the vehicle through a grant by the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District.
Have you saved money on gas?
It has definitely saved us some money on gas because we used to use these gas guzzlers that used twice as much fuel.
Do you think the Police Department will get more hybrid vehicles?
We’re hoping to get more hybrid vehicles in the future for detectives and administrative use. As you know they are pretty spendy and budgets are getting cut right now.
