A woman reported that she had been tied up in a Truckee clothing store Tuesday after a male suspect threatened her with a knife and robbed the store. He was accompanied by three other men, according to the Truckee Police Department.

At 1 p.m. Tuesday, Truckee police responded to a call from the store clerk at Tienda La Esperanza, located at 11400 Donner Pass Road, No. 10, near Tacos Jalisco. The woman reported the robbery and said she had been able to free herself after being tied up.

The clerk told police four Hispanic males entered the store and were loitering in the business for a while. Police Sgt. Ted Bier said the clerk told investigators the suspects “were winking at each other” and one of the suspects asked her if he could look at something in the back of the store.

A suspect flashed a knife at the clerk, tied her up and left her in a storage area. Bier said the clerk was the only person in the store and she was not injured during the robbery.

The four suspects robbed the store and fled the scene, Bier said. Because the incident is still under investigation he would not say what was stolen.

It is unknown if the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, Bier said. Truckee police and Placer County Sheriff’s deputies, including a K9 unit, searched the surrounding area for the suspects and for additional evidence, according to police reports. As of Wednesday afternoon, no one had been taken into custody, Bier said.

Investigators reviewed video surveillance footage from adjacent businesses that might include the four suspects, but have had no success, Bier said.

Especially at this time of year, business owners should keep the front windows clear of ads and posters so police patrolling the area have a clear view inside the store, Bier said.

Anyone who can identify any of the suspects, or anyone who may have additional information, is urged to call Truckee police at 550-2320.
