Salary agreement possible

ABHUTCHISON, Sierra Sun

Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District officials are expecting both the district’s teachers and classified employees negotiating teams to ratify a salary agreement this week.

The agreement will come before the TTUSD Board of Trustees in a special board meeting Friday for final approval.

While specifics of the agreement could not be disclosed prior to ratification, TTUSD Superintendent Pat Gemma said he expects the agreement to move forward without delay.

“I think they’re going to be very pleased with the agreement,” Gemma said. “We really needed to put a substantial amount of the (additional $2 million from the state) towards teacher’s salaries.”

Earlier in the year, the state of California announced it would give school districts an additional $1.8 billion in discretionary funds to be used in a variety of ways: teachers’ salaries, school safety, materials and increased programming.

Gemma said while the majority of the money will most likely go towards teacher’s salaries in this district, there will be some money left over for other district needs.
