Sallylee Jansen Gude

Mrs. Sallylee J. Gude died July 8 at her home in Chapel Hill, N.C. Mrs. Gude was born in October 1926, in New York City. She was the daughter of Walter and Kathryn Jansen. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John Gude, son David Gude, Burlington, N.C., daughter Kathryn G. Shaffer, Truckee, brother Wallace Jansen and four grandchildren.Mrs. Gude was a graduate of Smith College and was employed, pre-marriage, in food publicity and journalism work, the latter which she also performed part time after marriage. She was also active in local volunteer work, college alumnae, League of Women Voters, Unitarian-Universalist Church activities, both in Chatam, N.J., her residence for 35 years and as a resident of Chapel Hill, N.C. for 12 years. Most recently she was past president of the Chapel Hill Women’s Club.A memorial service will be held at the Eno River UU Fellowship 4907 Garrett Rd., Durham, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Institute for Cancer Research.
