San Jose man dies in I-80 accident

DONNER SUMMIT ” A truck heading west on Interstate 80 veered off the road into a ravine, killing the driver Monday morning.

At about 6:40 a.m. Monday, a driver just east of the rest area heading west on the interstate may have fallen asleep, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

The 2002 Toyota Tacoma and driver, from San Jose, drove onto a dirt shoulder, crossed through a guardrail, and launched into a ravine, airborne for about 88 feet before rolling then coming to a stop, according to the release.

Paramedics from the Truckee Fire Protection District pronounced the driver deceased at the scene.
