Schallers take the keys to Casler’s office

Josh Miller/Sierra SunThe Schaller family has joined with Dickson Realty to open an office in Truckee. In front, left to right, are Liz Christoffersen, spokeswoman for Dickson; Nancy Fennell, part owner of Dickson; Lil Schaller, real estate agent. Back row, left to right are Reed Simmons, part owner of Dickson; Don Schaller, Realtor; Kane Schaller, real estate agent.

The Schaller family, holders of three “Realtor of the Year” awards, teamed up with Reno-based Dickson Realty to take over Century 21 from Don Casler, who sold his office after 21 years in the Truckee real estate business.

Don Schaller, a former Truckee Citizen of the Year, his wife, Lil, and two sons Mark and Kane will run the office, which they purchased jointly with Dickson Realty, ranked 163 in a national report by Real Trends Broker Report.

The office’s changing of hands is less of a take over than it is a transaction between friends. Don and Lil Schaller got their start in real estate at Century 21 approximately 12 years ago, and they have remained friends with Casler. Casler will stay on at Dickson Realty as an associate broker.

At the new office, Schaller knows that he has award-winning real estate agents to work with – his wife and son.

“I essentially believe that a successful real estate business has to do with the agents,” Schaller said. “They are the cornerstone of the industry.”

Schaller, his wife, and his son Mark have all been named “Realtor of the Year” by the Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors.

“I think that is pretty unusual. I don’t think three people in the same family have won the award,” Schaller said. His son Kane is a new agent, and Schaller wonders if down the road he might win the award, giving the family a “four-bagger.”

The partnership between Dickson and the Schaller family combines a regional firm of strong resources with a Truckee family with a long history in the area.

“The joining of Dickson and the Schallers has given us more tools to work with,” Schaller said. “They realize the insights of the market and know how to take advantage of them.”

Dickson Realty has offices in Reno, Sparks and Incline Village. By adding an office in Truckee, they said they are excited about entering a growing community.

“In Truckee there is so much development projected in the next five or 10 years,” said Liz Christoffersen, spokeswoman for Dickson Realty. “That was a huge part of the decision to have a presence there.”

The office will offer residential, commercial, mortgage, insurance and property management services.

Dickson Realty is located at 11500 Donner Pass Road. Their phone number is 587-7444
