School board meeting focuses on upcoming school year

School’s out for summer, but that doesn’t mean a vacation for board members of the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District.

In a meeting held in the TTUSD board room on Tuesday, June 19, members had the opportunity to listen to public comment on the district’s choice of instructional materials and hear a presentation on affordable housing for district employees.

Karen Van Epps, president of the board, said hiring new administrators has become more and more difficult, especially on the lake side.

“It would behoove us to provide some sort of incentive for administrators who are looking for jobs in this area,” said Van Epps.

After a short public hearing regarding the district’s instructional materials, a resolution was adopted by the board to pass the list of materials for the upcoming school year.

In other business, the board gave the initial approval for a bid for the Truckee Elementary School Gymnasium and discussed new high school graduation requirements.

The next school board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 27, when members are expected to listen to public comment and discuss the budget for the upcoming 2001 -2002 school year.

For more information about the meeting or for a copy of the agenda contact Ginger Charlton, executive secretary, at the district’s office 587-7600.
