School restructuring committee formed

On Wednesday Tahoe-Truckee school board trustees appointed ten citizens, teachers and parents to a new district advisory committee.

The Tahoe Truckee Restructuring and Reconfiguration Advisory Committee (TTRAC) was formed to address declining enrollment and other critical issues.

Back in September, the trustees agreed to create the citizen’s committee to study restructuring of the district’s North Shore schools.

“The advisory committee will be analyzing staffing and declining enrollment

patterns in the schools on the lakeside,” said district Consultant Carol Brush in an e-mail. “We will also be looking at how the schools’ programs are impacted by these issues.”

The district invited parents and community members to serve on the restructuring committee by filling out an application. By the deadline of Oct. 19, 16 applications were received, according Brush.

Brush, hired by the district, will lead the committee during their inaugural meeting, which is scheduled November 13 at 4:40 p.m. at North Tahoe Middle School.

“This will be an organizational meeting,” Brush said.

The adopted timeline asks the committee to produce a report to the trustees by March 2008. The board will compensate participants $500 apiece. The committee will serve in an advisory role to the board.

The group will review, among other items, Brown Act meeting standards, and talk about issues related to the No Child Left Behind Act.
