Schools closed today

All schools in the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District are closed today due to a forecast of heavy snow throughout the day.

In town, snow accumulation is expected to reach 4 to 8 inches today, with 8 to 16 inches above 7,000 feet.

Winds will reach 30 mph, with gusts of 50 mph. Over the ridges, gusts are expected to reach 90 mph.



Chains or four-wheel drive are required on Interstate 80 from one mile east of Baxter to the Nevada state line. On Highway 267 chains or four-wheel drive are required from Northstar to Kings Beach.

On Highway 89 north, chains or snow tires are required four miles north of Truckee to the Sierra-Plumas county line. On Highway 89 south, chains or four-wheel drive are required from Truckee to the Bliss State Park.
