Schwarzenegger urges ‘no’ vote on power contract

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has now weighed in on the Truckee Donner Public Utility District’s pending 50-year power contract vote.

On Tuesday, the governor sent a letter to all five members of the district’s board to express his concern about the vote, scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at the utility’s headquarters.

“I urge you to join California’s other forward-looking municipalities in using cleaner and renewable sources of electric generation to meet the needs of the economy, while protecting our environmental resources,” Schwarzenegger wrote.

Because the size of California’s economy, the state is the 12th largest emitter of greenhouse gas in the world despite leading the nation in energy efficiency standards.
