Second Hwy 89 roundabout set

Construction of a long-planned roundabout at Highway 89 north, Alder Drive and Prosser Dam Road will start by mid-summer.

The roundabout, part of East West Partners development agreement for the Gray’s Crossing subdivision that sits on both sides of Highway 89, is likely to be permitted between June 16 and July 7, according to Jeff Butterworth, project manager for Gray’s Crossing.

Completion of the project is slated for Oct. 15.

“We are finally at the end of the long Caltrans permitting process and we anticipate starting construction by mid-June to early July,” Butterworth said in a statement.

Road closures will occur in the area, however, Butterworth said Highway 89 will never be closed entirely. Alder Drive could be closed for as long as three weeks while Prosser Dam Road will be closed for shorter periods, he said.

The detour for Alder Drive will be through Pine Forest and the Pioneer Commerce Center. The Prosser Dam Road detour will be through Gray’s Crossing to the new roundabout at Highway 89 and Donner Pass Road.

Because of the road closures, a second roundabout at Donner Pass Road and Pioneer Trail will be put off until 2009.
