Seeking volunteers and teams for Truckee’s Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers and teams for the first ever 24-hour Relay for Life of Truckee to be held July 28 to 29 from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Truckee High School track and softball fields.

Relay for Life is an overnight event that mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer. All survivors are invited to participate in the opening ceremony Survivor Lap at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 28. Saturday evening luminaria bags will light the way after dusk to honor those whose lives have been touched by cancer. For a donation of $15, you can have the name of someone that has battled cancer, as a survivor or in memory of, on a luminaria bag.

Teams of eight to 24 members gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation. Relay for Life brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, and places of worship ” people from all walks of life. Teams seek sponsorship prior to the Relay, all with the goal of eliminating cancer. Rules of engagement are that each team has at least one member of their team on the track for the 24 hours.
