Sex offender, 20, arrested for living too close to Truckee daycare

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Authorities arrested a registered sex offender last week after police say he illegally obtained residence near a local daycare facility.

According to a press release from the Truckee Police Department, Gustavo Ramirez, 20, a registered sex offender, moved to Truckee in October of this year and registered with Truckee Police.

On Nov. 21, police verified Ramirez had been deceitful to law enforcement regarding his true residence location, which was in violation regarding its proximity within 2,000 feet of a local daycare facility, according to the press release.

Detectives located Ramirez at the prohibited residence and arrested him on suspicion of failure to register and violation of probation; he was booked into the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Truckee substation jail.

“The Truckee Police Department’s Investigation Division regularly monitors and contacts local registered sex offenders as a matter of routine,” according to the press release. “These contacts are meant to keep registered sex offenders in contact with law enforcement, and to encourage compliance and lawful behavior.”

In California, convicted sex offenders are required to register with the local law enforcement agency upon any change of address or regular habitation location, which also applies to transients and homeless registrants as well.
