Shark sighting prompts closure of Bay Area beach

RODEO BEACH, Calif. (AP) ” Authorities have closed the offshore waters of Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands because of a shark sighting.

The closure yesterday came just hours after officials reopened the beach after cleaning up oil from this month’s oil spill.

A spokesman for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area says officials decided to close the waters to the public after three people reported seeing a shark killing a seal about 150 feet offshore Sunday morning.

The spokesman says if no more sharks are seen this week, the waters may be opened again Friday morning.
