Sierra Meadows sewer service forum planned

After the requests of several property owners in the Sierra Meadows area, the Truckee Sanitary District (TSD) will hear public comments on Thursday, May 17 regarding the installation of sewer service to 56 homes.

“Right now we have no idea when, if or what people want,” said Oz Butterfield, general manager at the Truckee Sanitary District. “That’s what (the meeting) is all about.”

The TSD Board will hear discussion from residents starting at 7 p.m. at their office on Joerger Drive.

It is estimated that the cost to install the new sewer system could be near $600,000, almost $16,000 per owner.

Butterfield says the TSD would pick up about 40 percent of the cost, leaving homeowners with a cost of about $4,400.

The proposal affects 2001 Sierra Meadows Sewer Pipeline Project Area residents who are currently operating on septic systems that the TSD feels might harm the water supply.

The area consists of streets near Martis Valley Road and Golden Pine as well as streets near Jeffrey Pine.

For more information about the meeting or to see if your property might be affected, contact the TSD at (530) 587-3804.
