Sierra Sun hires news reporter
TAHOE/TRUCKEE and#8212; The Sierra Sun is pleased to announce the hiring of Jenell Schwab as a news reporter.
Schwab wrote for The Sheet in Mammoth Lakes before studying literary journalism at New York University. She graduated cum laude with a bachelorand#8217;s of science in anthropology from the University of California, Riverside, in 1997.
For the past four years, she has been working on an immersion writing project involving marine mammals and offshore oil exploration.
Schwab said she is passionate about community journalism; she believes reporting is the perfect excuse to spend the day considering new opinions and exploring novel ideas.
and#8220;Iand#8217;m excited to be here, and I look forward to getting started,and#8221; she said.
Schwab replaces Jason Shueh, who left the Sun in late 2011 after he accepted a reporter position with the Greeley Tribune, also a Swift Communications-owned newspaper.
Though she has never lived in the Tahoe/Truckee region, she has called several high Sierra hamlets home since 1994.
In addition to being a huge fan of the Sierra Nevada landscape, Schwab said she likes svelte house cats, French Louisiana, the night sky and cast iron cookware.
