Slew of events, specials in Tahoe/Truckee on tap for Veterans Day

TAHOE/TRUCKEE – Join the community in honoring veterans during the Truckee Veterans Day Celebration, taking place Sunday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. in front of the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce, California Welcome Center (train depot, downtown Truckee).With patriotic spirit, Truckee Town Manager Tony Lashbrook is personally donating parking fees that morning so attendees may park free, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the depot/fire station lots. Please note: Parking will be enforced as normal in all other downtown Truckee locations.The Experimental Aircraft Association, town of Truckee, town of Truckee Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Truckee Donner Chamber and California Welcome Center, Wagon Train, Sierra Sun, Civil Air Patrol, La Fleur Rouge and the Mountain Belles are event sponsors.For information, contact Sierra Sun Community Editor Amy Edgett at 530-550-2656.

Boy Scout Troop 266 and Venture Crew will celebrate Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. at Trails End Cemetery in Tahoe City. Scouts and their families will place American flags on the grave sites of veterans, and scouts will lead a ceremony honoring military veterans.Proceedings will include inspirational readings, recognition of veterans in attendance, 21-gun salute and playing of Taps. The public is invited to attend and honor the brave men and women who have risked their lives for the United States of America. Trails End Cemetery is located on Fairway Drive behind Tahoe City Golf Course in Tahoe City.

Tahoe Donner General Manager, Robb Etnyre (USMC, Retired), invites fellow veterans and their families to attend a special Marine Corps birthday and Veterans Day remembrance event.”We invite all veterans and their families to take a moment to reflect on the long tradition of service and sacrifice the men and women of our armed forces have and continue to make every day,” said Etnyre.Join the celebration Saturday, Nov. 10, at 6 p.m. at The Lodge Restaurant & Pub in Tahoe Donner. Heavy appetizers and birthday cake will be served. There will be a no-host bar for attendees to purchase beverages.
