Smoky skies result of West Tahoe prescribed fire

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. and#8212; Prescribed fires in Eldorado National Forest caused smoky skies in the Lake Tahoe Basin Tuesday.

The fires are part of an understory burn in the Iron Trap project area located along three miles of the Mormon Emigrant Trail near Brown Rock and Meiss Road. The objective of the project is to reduce wildfire risk and reintroduce fire into a fire-dependent ecosystem, according to a flyer announcing the burns.

About 200 acres of the 1,088 acre project were expected to be burned Tuesday.
