Snow forecast over weekend

Today’s rain showers are expected to linger into this evening with another wet storm predicted for Friday and Saturday in the Sierra.

This morning the National Weather Service in Sacramento issued a winter storm watch for Friday, when snow levels are expected to drop to 3,000 feet in the Sierra. Snow is expected at 5,000 feet and above today.

Weekend travelers can expect 6 to 12 inches of snow above 5,000 feet from Friday and Saturday’s storm, and up to 18 inches at the higher elevations.

Gusty winds up to 40 mph could mix with snow, sleet or ice in the high Sierra Friday, creating possible whiteout conditions at times, the National Weather Service said.

Snow showers are expected to continue at the high elevations through Sunday morning.
