Although the buzz surrounding the new Sol y Lago restaurant has far from died down, the Tahoe City establishment is already offering a new and exciting pairing – the Sierra Latino cuisine the restaurant has pioneered along with downtempo, lounge and house beats provided by resident DJs, DJ sWiTcH and DJJD.An evening at “Luna Lounge” – so named by DJ sWiTcH (aka Jason Hogue) – happens every Saturday night at 9:30 p.m. When dinner comes to an end, the lights lower to a glow and the music lures you to the bar. DJ sWiTcH and DJJD (aka Justin Curtis) take turns spinning their own tasteful music to patrons of the venue, alternating weekends.

Known for his organic beats and deep house music, a genre he originally played when he first started his career as a DJ, DJ sWiTcH brings a healthy fan base to the new Luna Lounge. He claims to be there to provide “feel good music” to make you feel relaxed and open in a comfortable environment. “That is what I am there for, to make you feel delighted to be where you are with your friends and family,” sWiTcH said.DJJD is especially excited to play at Sol y Lago because the venue broadens the variety of entertainment in the Tahoe scene. And with that, JD is able to broaden his music appeal as well.

“This is an opportunity for me to deliver good music for people to enjoy and to play a different role as a DJ rather than at a rocking party,” he said. “Sol y Lago inspires me to play modern jazzy beats with an international flavor. I try to keep people interested in the music without overwhelming them.”And patrons get just that, a curious international sound that makes you want to stay and investigate bit more. “In the beginning of my set, I try to play some songs that are so intriguing and unique that people are compelled to stick around and enjoy a drink,” DJJD said.

If you go, don’t expect to see a full dance floor of people jumping up and down to heavy music. Instead, the music will build throughout the night, bringing just enough energy for you to bounce in your seat and sway back and forth while you get to know your date or company a little bit more. Both DJJD and sWiTcH believe that Sol y Lago is not just about the food or the music, but rather the whole experience. “JD and I have our heart and soul in this music, I am excited to be able to associate myself with a place that feels the same way,” sWiTcH said.

With the new balance of music and creative cuisine, Sol y Lago co-owner and manager Brian Reccow hopes to bring a new element to the Tahoe music scene.According to Reccow, the venue will provide “good times and good music that will just make your time in Tahoe that much more memorable. Whether off the mountain or out of the lake, we want to give our guests a fantastic experience.” Sol y Lago (aka the Luna Lounge) is located in the Boatworks Mall in Tahoe City. Open for dinner and drinks in the afternoon, the restaurant can be contacted at 530-583-0358. See http://www.solylago.com for more information.
