Umpires neededTruckee Little League is in dire need of umpires for its upcoming season. Umpires are needed for games a week between April 26 and June 15. An umpire clinic is scheduled for Saturday, April 5 at the EAA Hanger at the Truckee Airport from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend. For more information contact Jim Smith at, lacrosseThe Truckee-Donner Recreation andamp; Park District is holding sign-ups through mid-April for its girls softball league as well as boys and girls lacrosse leagues. The leagues last through early June. Softball is for girls grades second through eighth, and lacrosse is for athletes ages 8-18. To sign up, stop by the TDRPD office or call 582-7720.LUNA Chix of NASTCThe last Ski with the LUNA Chix of NASTC free half-day clinic for women will be held at Sugar Bowl on April 9 (skiers levels intermediate through advanced only). Meeting time is 9 a.m. at the bottom of Jerome Hill Chair. Lift tickets or passes are required. RSVP with the North American Ski Training Center (NASTC) at 582-4772 or PassSquaw Valley USA is offering a $179 Spring Pass valid through the end of the season. They count towards the purchase of any 2008/2009 season pass. For more information call Special Tickets at 452-7123.Girls softballTahoe City Public Utility District Parks and Recreation Department is taking registration for its girls softball league. The program is open to girls grades third through ninth. Teams will be divided into different grade groups. Games and practice will be held after school at various locations Monday through Friday. The league begins April 28 and ends June 7. The fee is $75 or $70 for residents, which includes a team shirt and a picture package. Registration ends April 11. For more information contact the Parks and Recreation Office at 583-3440, ext. 10.Dodgeball leagueThe TCPUD Recreation Department is taking registration for its new dodgeball program, which begins April 7 from 6:30-9 p.m. at Rideout Community Center. There will with two to three open gym dodgeball nights to be followed by a league and potentially a tournament if there is enough interest. The program is open to anyone 14 years and older. Open gym is free, but the team fee is $125, with the sponsor fee at $150. For more information contact the Parks and Recreation Office at 583-3440, ext. 10.Stroke clinicsThe Truckee Community Swimming Pool hosts ongoing weekly stroke clinics Thursdays at 8 a.m. and Sundays at 9 a.m. Cost is $10 a session. Call 582-2361 for more information, or drop by the pool during that time to speak with the instructor.Tahoe XC passTahoe Cross Country season passes are on sale for the remainder of the season and all of next season. Adult rates are as low as $219.50 with the two-adult partner pass. The ski area is scheduled to close April 13. Call 583-5475 or visit for more information.
