North Tahoe AYSOPre-registration for the North Tahoe American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) season will be held at Tahoe Lake Elementary School on May 14 from 3-5 p.m. and Kings Beach Elementary School from 6-8 p.m. Pre-registration will also be held May 19 at Kings Beach Elementary School from 5-7 p.m. Cost is $55 per player and $50 for siblings. After May 19 the fee increases to $75 per player and $70 for siblings. New players must bring a birth certificate. Boys and girls must be 4 years and 6 months as of July 31, 2008 to be eligible for the youngest division. The oldest division is 12 and 13. Volunteers are needed for coaches, referees, etc. Practice starts in August, with league games after Labor Day. Walk-in registration is available, with pre-printed forms for returning players and for those new to the league. All players need to provide a birth certificate copy. All U14 and U19 players must have player cards. For players born before July 31, 1996, bring two 1×1 photos. Support is needed to keep the football program going. Organizers are trying to get Tahoe City to get involved. The class will be held Mondays or Thursdays from 10-10:45 a.m. The first sessions will focus on baseball skills and will be held on Mondays from May 19 to June 16. The second session will feature soccer and will be held on Thursdays from May 22 to June 12. Cost is $37 per session or $32 for residents. Each student will receive a T-shirt for registering. Cost is $65 and includes instruction, lodging, food, training materials and transportation to work sites. All participants will have an opportunity to work with many trails groups and agencies in building and maintaining trails around the Lake Tahoe area after participating in this program. Single entry in the tournament is $150 and includes golf, lunch, dinner, entertainment and a silent auction. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe. Space is limited.Soccer campChallenger Sports is holding one of its nationwide British soccer training camps at Pomin Park in Tahoe City during the week of July 28Aug. 1. Each day campers ages 3 to 14 will practice and master new individual skills and understand small group and team tactics, as well as scrimmage. Each camper will receive a free T-shirt, soccer ball, player evaluation and end-of-camp gift. In addition, any child who signs up online at least 45 days prior to camp will receive a genuine British Soccer replica jersey.
