Hosted by the Auburn Ski Club Training Center, the 7.2-mile race around Donner Lake took place on a sunny fall morning, with fog lifting just in time for the start.
A couple of runners from Philadelphia claimed victories — with 29-year-old Sean Clark taking the overall win with an impressive time of 40 minutes, 5 seconds, and Bethany Gunther, 27, topping the women's field and placing eight overall in 48:23.
Gunther edged Christina Mishica (48:28), a cross-country ski coach at the Sugar Bowl Academy, in a sprint to the finish. Ashley French, 33, of Mill Valley was the third woman, in 48:43.
Zach Yeager, 29, of Reno finished second overall with a time of 40:38, while Auburn Ski Club Nordic skier Wyatt Fereday, 27, rounded out the top three in 41:11.
Truckee's Peter Carroll was fourth (43:50) and was followed by Jim Kaspari of Norden (45:58) and Nate Cutler of Kings Beach (47:41).
