All-Sierra League soccer: Truckee, North Tahoe honored by coaches

Sylas Wright/Sierra SunTruckee senior and three-year starter Stephanie O'Neil was voted Sierra League MVP. O'Neil tallied a team-high 32 goals and 19 assists for the state champion Wolverines.

North Tahoe and Truckee High soccer players cleaned up on 2009 All-Northern Sierra League selections.

The state champion Truckee girls led the way with 15 players voted to the All-League squad, including senior Stephanie O’Neil as the league MVP and junior Kennedy Power as the Defensive Player of the Year.

The Lakers girls had eight players voted to All-League, while the North Tahoe boys had five players honored and the Truckee boys 11 players.

Besides O’Neil and Power, Truckee junior Kelsi Decker made the first team at forward, senior Shannon Nicholls and junior Kelsey Porter were voted to the first team at halfback, senior Katy Stephens at fullback, and sophomore Mikaela Arnstein as a utility player.

Truckee’s Serena Dill and Shauna Day made the second team at forward, Jordan Tollison at halfback, and Kali Fallow at fullback, while the following players earned honorable mention recognition: Ali Gerrard, Ali Haines, Olivia Duner and Shannon Ondry.

For the Laker girls, seniors Dani Pranin and Lexey Dalmau-Jones were voted to the All-League first team at halfback, while junior Kelsey Wittels made the first team at fullback.

North Tahoe junior Kelley Holman was voted to the second team along with teammates Kea Jolicoeur at goalkeeper and Nicole Younger as a utility player. Jana Lane and Julia Lanza made honorable mention.

Incline’s Kelli Cherry was Offensive Player of the Year.

On the boys’ side, North Tahoe junior fullback Zach Rickenbach was voted to the All-League first team, and Freddy Ramirez and Sergio Arellano made the second team. Marco Garcia and Hugo Moreno earned honorable mention recognition.

Three Wolverine boys were voted to the first team, with junior Michael Brixey getting the nod at forward, senior Abel Islas at halfback and junior Bryan Reed at fullback.

Truckee’s Robby Heck made the second team at forward, Jason Apolinar and Easel Grass at halfback, and Nash McMullen at fullback. Ben Brown, Jesse Fereira, Nate Hamill and Clayton Hamill were recognized with honorable mention.

Abi Quintino of Sparks was voted league MVP, while Incline’s Alex Reyes-Manrriquez was Offensive Player of the Year and Johnny Luna Defensive Player of the Year.

The awards were voted on by Northern 3A coaches.
