Alpine team fourth in first comp
January 13, 2004
The Truckee High School alpine ski team competed in its first of six races in the 2004 season Jan. 7, finishing fourth overall to earn three points toward the season points race.
The team with the most points after six races is awarded the overall league championship.
The North Tahoe High School boys’ and girls’ team completed a sweep in the race, held at Alpine Meadows, to jump ahead of the pack in the Tahoe Basin Ski League. North Tahoe breezed to first place easily over runner-up Incline High School by 43 individual points with 360 total. It scored 183 points in the boys’ division and 177 points in the girls’ division.
For North Tahoe, Mateja Lane had the best time (1:23.95), based on two combined runs, in the girls’ division, finishing a quarter of a second better than Miranda Funston, Truckee’s top performer of the day.
Olivia Rassuchine was Truckee’s next best performer, finishing 15th with a time of 1:35.93. The Truckee girls faired better than the boys, finishing with 142 points, 21 better than the boys (the closer to first a racer finishes, the more points they are awarded toward the overall team score).
Three North Tahoe boys – Robert Ramm, Casey Riva and Eli Osborne – rounded out the top three in the boys’ division. Two Incline skiers finished fourth and fifth. The top Truckee racer, Josh Begel, finished 12th with a time of 1:23.09.
