Bruce Ajari: Enjoy the holiday season with some outdoor activity
December 18, 2009
It is hard to believe that another year is coming to an end. With it the holiday season is upon us. I love this time of year because it gives me the opportunity to see my children, who are now young adults with lives of their own.
As I shoveled snow after the most recent snowstorm this past weekend, I reflected that this process is certainly not getting any easier after living here for 32 years. However, if it were too easy, everyone would live up here year-round.
We live in a great area and I certainly feel fortunate to have made my home up here. Those of us who live in the greater Lake Tahoe area should consider ourselves very lucky.
This is a great area for those who love outdoor activities. Whether it is skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, boating, golf, hunting or fishing, the area has it all.
During the holidays we often get consumed with the commercial side of the season. Family and friends are certainly the most important element of the holidays. As my children have grown, this has become increasingly apparent to me.
If you feel yourself getting caught up in the stress of the commercial side of things, take a moment and reflect on just what you can be thankful for in your life. Many people would love to live in the Lake Tahoe area.

Hey, another great stress reliever is getting out there and enjoying one of the many outdoor activities the area offers. Whether you like to get out there for one of the snow sports or get out and wet a line like I do, you have one of the best areas in the world to do so.
My family has always told me that I am a different person when I come back from a fishing trip. I can tell you that it certainly has a calming effect on me. Even I can tell that I feel better when I get home.
Have a wonderful holiday season and remember that you can still wet a line somewhere. Get out and enjoy our local great outdoors. We have an abundance of great recreational opportunities up here. Enjoy them all!
