De Wit girls maintain leads in Truckee Tahoe Junior Golf standings

Sienna De Wit, competing in the girls 8-9 age group, won her second consecutive Truckee Tahoe Junior Golf tournament on July 12 at Coyote Moon in Truckee.

TRUCKEE, Calif. — The second event of the 2016 Truckee Tahoe Junior Golf season was held at Coyote Moon on July 12. With 47 competitors ranging from 8 to 17 years old, the juniors play nine holes of competition, except the boys 16-17 golfers, who play 18 holes.

The three De Wit girls from Schaffer's Mill Golf Club are maintaining healthy Cup point leads in their respective age groups. In the girls 8-9 age group, Sienna De Wit won her second straight event. Taking runner up honors was Marli O'Neill.

Stella De Wit won the girls 10-11 group with a 42, shaving eight strokes off her previous winning score of 50 at Old Greenwood. Kenzie McCormick from The Ridge came in second with a 48, followed by Ella Williams from Gray's Crossing with a 52. Ryan Flynn was one stroke back in fourth place, followed by Shannon Hugar and Julia Smith.

In the girls 12-14 group, first-time competitor Ashley Abramson took first with a 45. The oldest De Wit sister, Sofia, came in second with a 47, followed by Jordyn Jensen and Haley McCormick.

Myles Neadeau won the boys 8-9 group with a 71, bolstering his standing in overall Cup points with nine points.

In the boys 12-13 division, the largest and most competitive age group, Isaac O'Neill continued his hot streak, tying his score from Old Greenwood of 40 and winning his second consecutive tournament. Ethan Flynn shot a 45, trailed by Max Carter, Jack Byrne and Patrick Volkman.

Murphy Scott won the boys 14-15 group with a 40, followed by the opening-tournament winner Nicholas Asbra who shot a 42. Connor Hipsley shot a 44 and Matthew Volkman carded a 49 to place third and fourth, respectively.

In the boys 16-17 age group, Airon Yarbrough shot an 82, nearly breaking 80 for the first time, to win and boost his overall standing in the yearly point race.

Along with the results for each event, there is also the heavily sought after season-long TTJGT Cup Winner for each age group. First through fifth place get points at every tournament.

At the end of the year, the Cup Winner is claimed by who has accumulated the most cumulative points for the season.
