The Incline Village General Improvement District has agreed to renew their agreement with the Diamond Peak Ski Education Foundation until June 2022..

The Incline Village General Improvement District (IVGID), and the Diamond Peak Ski Education Foundation (DPSEF) have had the agreement since its creation in 1987. The ski education foundation has been in a contractual relationship with IVGID to conduct race training and events for ski operations.

The agreement outlines responsibilities of operating procedure, and policies of both IVGID and the DPSEF. The program and partnership provides skiing skills, race training, and participation at race events, with more than 130 community members participating this year.

Without the agreement, Diamond Peak would no longer be able to fund their ski racing events. This is especially important considering Diamond Peak typically doesn’t usually have capacity issues, as there is always room from ski events. The events then bring other mountain area ski teams to Incline Village and Diamond Peak.

During public comment at the Jan. 24 IVGID meeting, many young members from the Diamond Peak ski team got up to speak about the importance of the ski team in their lives and to ask the board to vote to renew the contract.

“If we didn’t have a ski team, not only would parents not ski here, kids would probably go elsewhere, and we would lose revenue by not having a ski team. So not only does it do great things for us and for the community, I think it benefits us all. We’re selling more passes, more food, you name it,” said IVGID Treasurer Peter Morris.

Chairwoman Kendra Wong agreed, saying “The Diamond Peak Ski Team is an outstanding program that is so much more than just ski racing. The ski team teaches skiers independence, accountability, and sportsmanship. Diamond Peak Ski Team members, coaches, and parents represent Incline Village whenever they compete and travel. I am proud of DPSEF and everything they bring to our community.”

The agreement, as submitted, was unanimously approved.
