Sledding on opening day at Granlibakken
December 18, 2017
Granlibakken Tahoe had a soft opening on Friday, Dec. 15, which led to a lot of family fun for people in attendance.
Sledding was the main attraction at Granlibakken's opening day, since the resort currently has about 2-4 inches of snow. Snowboarding and skiing are also available, but the T-lift is not yet in operation, and their hill is more preferable for beginners.
"Granlibakken is a great place to spend a day on the snow with family and friends," said Annora McGarry, marketing manager for Granlibakken Tahoe. "The full hill can be viewed from the deck of the ski lodge. Sledding is included in a full-day ski lift ticket, and can also be purchased on its own. Sledding and skiing are affordable and fun at Granlibakken Tahoe. It's really the perfect place to bring your family and friends for a day on the slopes this winter."
The resort provided their own plastic saucer equipment for sledding. At only $16 for the day, and children 3 years old or younger for free, sledding is the perfect activity for families with young children, or those who like to enjoy the snow without participating in skiing or snowboarding. A full day of skiing is $35 and $25 for children 12 or younger. Lodging guests always receive half off for these activities.
Cade Walker, a rental tech supervisor at Granlibakken, said "I've been working winters here for four years. I like the environment, it's a fun job. It can be stressful at times but I like the people, and we always have a good group of core people who come back here… we need more snow though, so we're gonna keep our fingers crossed for more snow."
Granlibakken also had prizes, games, giveaways, and free hot chocolate and cookies for their opening on both Friday and Saturday, Dec. 16, in their log cabin style lodge. It was the place for families with young children, who are looking for a summer camp-type lodging vibe.
