High Altitude Fitness to host climbing team tryouts
August 31, 2017
Young climbers will have a chance to join the ranks of High Altitude Fitness' youth climbing team, with the gym preparing to host team tryouts next week.
High Altitude Fitness climbing teams already boast some of the nation's top climbers in their respective age groups and will look to find the next generation of standout athletes with team tryouts for four different age-group squads on Friday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m.
"We will have climbers and parents meet coaches, along with general program information, climbing for assessment, and a tryout for the competition team," said Youth Climbing Coordinator Kyra Fritz in an email to the Sun. "We will also provide a light dinner for our climbers."
Climbers ages 5-18 are invited to come tryout for the teams of various skill levels and age.
The gym's program has produced several climbers over the past couple of years, who've gone on to represent the team at national climbing competitions. Stefan Fellner, who is currently competing at the Youth Climbing World Championships in Innsbruck, Austria through Sept. 10, and Alana Hendricks both represented the team at last July's USA Climbing Sport & Speed Youth Nationals in Georgia.
The entry-level squad, Little Spark, is for ages 5-10, and is geared toward basic safety, confidence boosting, hold identification, and proper training skills.
