Holmes claims second title at Junior Nationals

Peter Holmes won his second national title in as many races at the USSA Cross County Junior Championships in Stowe, Vt., on Wednesday.
Two days after winning the Individual Start Classic race, Holmes, a senior at North Tahoe High School, claimed the Classic Sprint title in the U18 men's division. Holmes posted a winning time of 3:10.53 over the 1.4-kilometer course. Jake Bassett of the Alaska Winter Stars finished runner-up in 3:15.18.
Other highlight results of the day from the local contingent included Hannah Halvorsen's fourth-place finish in the FU16 A Final, Lizzie Larkins' third place in the FU16 B Final, Patrick McElravey fifth place in the MU20 A Final, and Laurel Fiddler's fifth place in the FU20B Final.
Making the quarterfinals were Skyler Mullings, Trace Calvin, Ryland Belisle and Brandon Herhusky in the MU16 division, Jenna Rohlf in the FU16, Dylan Syben in the MU18, and Danielle Nivinski in the FU18.
Competition continues Friday with the Mass Start Skate and concludes Saturday with the Team Relay Skate.
