Incline baseball | Clouthier awarded MVP in All-League, All-State voting

The state champion Highlanders landed five players on the Northern Division III All-League baseball team, led by seniors Jack Clouthier and Tommy Thompson.

Clouthier, Incline's No. 1 starting pitcher and shortstop, received Most Valuable Player honors in both All-League and All-State voting. Thompson, also a starting pitcher and shortstop, made first team All-League and All-State.

Incline senior first baseman Ben Snyder, who caught fire with the bat during the Highlanders' late-season run, and freshman catcher Tristan Summers were voted to the All-League second team. Junior center fielder Owen Graffis received honorable mention recognition.

Worth Nelson of Battle Mountain, which won the Northern DIII regular-season title, was voted Coach of the Year.

Clouthier, who helped lead the Highlanders to their first state championship since 1975, finished the season with a .584 batting average and a slugging percentage of 1.025 — with three home runs, nine triples and seven doubles in 77 at-bats. He stole 29 bases in 30 attempts and posted an 8-2 pitching record with 91 strikeouts and 19 walks in 57.2 innings.

Thompson hit .478 and slugged .815, with two home runs, six triples and 13 doubles. He drove in a team-high 35 runs and swiped 23 bases in 25 attempts. Thompson also posted a 6-2 record on the mound and finished with 58 strikeouts versus only 12 walks in 55 innings.

Snyder finished with a .429 average with three home runs, 10 doubles and 28 RBIs, Summers hit .424 with 27 RBIs, and Graffis hit .368 with 23 RBIs.

The Highlanders, who entered the postseason as a No. 3 seed, swept through both the regional and state championship tournaments and won 12 of their last 13 games. They finished 22-6 overall.

The All-League and All-State awards were determined by the coaches.
