The Highlanders punched their ticket to the Division III state golf championship by sweeping the top two places individually and finishing second as a team at the regional tournament at Edgewood Tahoe on Thursday.
Incline sophomore Mitchell Cornell, who finished runner-up at state a year ago, fired a one-under-par 71 over the 6,365-yard Stateline course to earn the regional title.
Teammate Bryan Golombik posted the second-lowest score of the regional tournament, with a 79, and Dylan Smith finished fourth with an 82.
With three golfers finishing among the top four, Incline placed second place as a team with a score of 467 to winner Battle Mountain's 452. Whittell secured the third and final state berth as a team, with a 492.
Battle Mountain's best finish was Jonas Norman's fifth place, with an 85, but the Longhorns placed four golfers in the top 11 to earn the top Northern seed entering state.
Wells (502), Sierra Lutheran (574) and North Tahoe (594) finished out of the state running, while Jackpot, Sage Ridge, Yerington and Mineral County did not have enough golfers to record a team score.
