Incline volleyball: Highlanders secure No. 2 regional seed

Incline junior setter Keegan Wells sets up teammate Kira Porter for a kill during a past home match. The Highlanders ended the regular season Saturday with a win at Pershing County to secure the No. 2 playoff seed.

The Incline volleyball team clinched the No. 2 seed in the postseason with a pair of league wins to end the regular season this past Wednesday and Saturday.

The visiting Highlanders swept past Silver Stage with ease, 25-7, 25-17, 25-12, on Wednesday. Incline went on to defeat fourth-seeded Pershing County in four sets on the road Saturday, 19-25, 25-13, 26-24, 25-19, to post a final regular-season record of 10-2 in league and 11-5 overall.

Incline will open the Northern Division III regional championship tournament at Yerington on Saturday with a semifinal match against rival North Tahoe, the No. 3 seed, at 1:45 p.m. The lakeside foes split their two regular-season matches, with Incline winning in four sets at North Tahoe last Tuesday.

The winner between the Highlanders and Lakers will advance to the regional final at 4 p.m. to face the winner between top-seeded Yerington (11-1) and Pershing County (6-6). The top two teams qualify for the state championship, which is scheduled for Nov. 13-14 in Henderson. Incline is the only team in the Northern DIII to defeat Yerington this season.

Against Silver Stage (0-12), Incline senior Kira Porter tallied 17 kills, three blocks and 11 digs, and sophomore Ellyse Kirkland finished with seven kills, four service aces, 16 digs and seven serve returns.

Junior Aspen Hoyle, who was selected as Incline's Player of the Match, had two aces, six digs and seven serve returns, Keegan Wells had four aces and 33 assists, and Helen Robles had two blocks. Arelly Camachno and Madison Cronk contributed 10 and nine digs, respectively.

Kirkland was Incline's Player of the Match against the Mustangs after finishing with nine kills, nine digs and nine serve returns. Porter posted huge numbers with 17 kills, 14 blocks, 15 digs, 15 serve returns and three aces.

Sophomore Molly Racich posted six kills, Madeleine Saxe had four four kills, four aces, 16 digs and 11 serve returns, Robles had four kills and four blocks, and Wells had three aces, three blocks and 41 assists.
