Sun Staff reports

Emma Garrard/Sierra SunRobert Walter was one of about 90 skiers and snowboarders who competed in the Coogan Kelly Memorial Rail Jam at Squaw Valley USA on Sunday. The event raised about $1,500 for the Coogan Kelly Memorial Foundation.

Squaw Valley USA ” While blinding at times, Sunday’s wintry weather was a welcome site for more than 90 snow-starved skiers and snowboarders who competed in the Coogan Kelly Memorial Rail Jam.

The second-year event, put on by SnowBomb and Squaw Valley, is a tribute to Truckee snowboarder Coogan Kelly, a friend to many who was slain at a Reno party more than a year ago. In his memory, SnowBomb donates all competitor registration fees to the Coogan Kelly Memorial Foundation.

This year about $1,500 was raised for the Foundation, according to SnowBomb.

Tim Major, 18, of Vermont captured the top spot in the men’s snowboard division, while 25-year-old Allison Hardy of Truckee took first in the women’s division. Robert Walter, 22, and Becca Babicz, 23, won the men’s and women’s ski divisions.

The Cholula Hottest Trick Award went to 15-year-old Luke Funicella of Tahoe City.
