Lake Tahoe mountain fest includes recreational fun for all ages

Staff report

TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Guided trail runs, stand-up paddleboard clinics and daily yoga sessions will all be part of this summer's Alpenglow Mountain Festival, which begins this Saturday and runs through June 28.

The nine-day festival in North Lake Tahoe is a celebration of human-powered events, clinics, presentations and more.

"Geared toward beginner and intermediate mountain sports enthusiasts, the event will showcase some of the best activities Lake Tahoe has to offer, including trail running, hiking, yoga, stand-up paddleboarding and natural history events," said Brendan Madigan, owner of Tahoe City-based Alpenglow Sports, who coordinates the third-annual event.

The festival also includes a fun run with Western States Endurance Run champion Stephanie Howe; an overnight backpacking trip through Desolation Wilderness; the Trails in Motion trail running film tour; a screening of JB Benna/Journey Films "The Long Haul" and "Unbreakable;" movies about extreme human feats on the John Muir Trail; and BASE jumper Steph Davis presenting "Managing Mountain Risk."

The majority of events are free and space is limited. Participants are encouraged to register online to assure spots.

Alpenglow Sports is an original California mountain shop that has provided locals and tourists with inspiration, local knowledge and the best equipment to enjoy the great outdoors for more than 35 years.
