Lucky Number Seven: Cardinals take Truckee Little League Minors title
June 19, 2014
TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Cardinals made it lucky number seven in a row when they beat the Cubs 9-2 in the Truckee Little League minor division championship game Friday the 13th.
However, it was more than luck when the Cardinals won the title at Regional Park Small Field.
The Cardinals used five hits from their first five batters of the game to jump out to an early 3-0 lead, a lead that grew over the next five innings and one the Cardinals never relinquished.
The visiting Cardinals' starting pitcher, Tavin Hamilton, allowed the Cubs' first batter of the game to score and then shut it down from there.
He threw four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings pitched. He also snagged a line drive off the bat of Mateo Morales and doubled off the runner at second base for the defensive highlight of the game in the second inning.
Cardinals' pitcher Damon Parisi took over for Hamilton in the third, and faced his first Cubs' batter with bases loaded and only one out. Parisi pitched out of the jam by striking out the next two batters.

Team leaders for the Cubs included Tyler Lamperti. He was the Cubs' most effective pitcher and struck out six, including five batters in a row that spanned the third and fourth innings.
Five Cubs' batters reached safely by batted balls, including Micah Ivens, Jackson Kahl, Bennett Swigard and Jordyn Jensen.

Another will start Wednesday, June 25 in Carson City.
