New website devoted to everything Squaw
December 11, 2009
Finding honest information about conditions and gear for the Tahoe area has gotten easier. UnofficialSquaw.com, a new website devoted to everything Squaw, will help skiers and snowboarders find out whatand#8217;s happening in Squaw.
Stacked with six full-time staff, the site is updated often with photos of the mountain, videos, gear reviews, backcountry trip reports and more. To set off this season they are throwing a party on Saturday at the Olympic Village Inn. Details are on the website.
The lack of interesting and accurate information on the Internet about the ski and snowboard culture surrounding one of the most influential locations in the country, Squaw Valley and Lake Tahoe, frustrated Tim Konrad. Searches on the Internet revealed mostly real-estate sales and vacation rentals, valuable information but not what most ski enthusiasts are looking for.
Konradand#8217;s idea for a website to inform people of accurate conditions, what shops provide the best support and where to go for apres was created as a link for people to get legitimate resources for Squaw Valley and the surrounding areas.
and#8220;I wanted a useful website that I would use,and#8221; said Konrad.
So the winter of 2006-and#8217;07, Konrad and his brother started Unofficialsquaw.com to spread the word about all things ski and snowboard at Squaw Valley.

For the first year every update was solely out of interest by Konrad to create a good website. Since then his site has grown to include the six full-time employees who update each day. Updates include photos, essays, videos from the resort, weather forecasts, stories about skiing and snowboarding, interviews with locals, history about the resort, and more.
Over time Unofficial will build a library of unique stories about skiing and snowboarding at Squaw, complete with photos and video.
Although most of the information is about Squaw, the UnofficialSquaw.com crew keeps the website current with other significant events around Tahoe and other resorts. They also want to add a backcountry component where skiers can find information about backcountry conditions and locations.
Next Konrad added a freeride team to the project, which is set to compete this winter on the World Freeride Tour. The team also will travel globally in search of snow. They just returned from Antarctica and were headed to Alaska from there. Complementing their crew are a filmer and photographer who will document all their adventures for the website.
So next time youand#8217;re curious about boot-fitting, weather updates on the hill or where to ski in South America, check out UnofficialSquaw.com. A new website will be launched soon. Proceeds from Saturdayand#8217;s party at the Olympic Village Inn go to the and#8220;High Fivesand#8221; non-profit.
