Jeff Schloss speaks proudly of his point-to-point Nordic ski fundraiser.

Next year, after organizing the race for its first three seasons, he might even reward his efforts by participating.

and#8220;I don’t get to race it being the organizer,and#8221; Schloss said of the annual Tahoe Rim Tour, which is slated for Sunday, Jan. 24. and#8220;The first three years I figured I’d organize. After that I might let someone else be in charge, and then I’ll race.and#8221;

The race, which begins at North Tahoe High School and ends more than 20 kilometers later at the Northstar Cross Country Center, is unique in that it includes separate divisions for both the classic and freestyle disciplines, as well as a snowshoe division. Racers depart from near the North Tahoe football field before meeting soon up with the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Center trail system.

To ensure that classic skiers have clean tracks and not skated over, Schloss is starting the classic wave at 9 a.m. and the skate and snowshoe waves at 9:30 a.m.

The staggered start provides a luxury not commonly received by classic skiers, who normally have to deal with the choppy tracks created by the skate racers, Schloss said.
