North Tahoe baseball | League-leading Longhorns, Lakers split two

The North Tahoe baseball team dealt visiting Battle Mountain its first league loss as the teams split their doubleheader in Tahoe Vista on Saturday.
The Lakers rolled to a 6-2 win in the opener behind a strong start by senior hurler Wildon DesLauriers, who recorded nine strikeouts in a complete game.
Despite a strong complete-game effort by senior Shane Christian in Game 2, the Longhorns eked out a 3-2 win to salvage the split.
North Tahoe remains in second place at 8-2 in league play, while Battle Mountain leads the standings at 11-1. They are followed by Yerington at 9-3 and Pershing County at 7-5. Incline is fifth at 6-6 as the Highlanders and Mustangs battle for the fourth and final regional playoff berth.
In the first game, junior first baseman Miles Johansen put the Lakers on the board in the second inning with a key hit that drove in Mitchell Myers and Alex Bourriague after they doubled and singled.
North Tahoe broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run fourth inning. Tyler Olk and Alex Tyler initiated the rally with a pair of singles. DesLauriers followed by driving in Olk, and Christian knocked in Tyler and DesLauriers to give the Lakers a 5-2 lead.

DesLauriers further helped his cause with an RBI double that scored Tyler in the sixth.
The Lakers could not muster enough run support in Game 2 to help Christian earn the win and complete the doubleheader sweep. But they came close.
Trailing by a run in the bottom of the seventh, DesLauriers singled and stole two bags to wind up on third with two outs. Myers then smashed a line drive to the outfield, but Battle Mountain's left fielder tracked it down for the final out.
The hosts banged out 12 hits in the contest, led by DesLauriers' two doubles, two singles and RBI, Johansen's four singles, and Christian's two RBIs. Tyler singled, doubled and drove in a run, Myers doubled, singled and was hit by two pitches, Lucas Earley and Olk contributed two hits apiece, and Bourriague had one hit.
North Tahoe, which played a league doubleheader at Silver Stage (1-9) on Tuesday, will end the regular season with a league twin bill at Pershing County on Saturday.
The Northern Division III regional tournament is scheduled for May 16-17 at Pershing County. The top two teams from regionals advance to state, which will be contested in three different sites in Reno.
