North Tahoe basketball | Boys dominate rematch against ROP

North Tahoe senior Miles Brandt, shown in a preseason tournament, scored a team-high 13 points in the Lakers' win over Rite of Passage on Friday.

The North Tahoe boys basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak in league play with a 59-24 rout against Rite of Passage on Friday.

The Lakers went on to lose at Yerington, 73-45, on Saturday. Yerington also defeated Incline, 71-60, on Friday night to take over sole possession of first place in the Northern Division III, at 10-1.

Incline is second at 9-2 and Battle Mountain, which has lost three straight league games, is third at 7-4. Pershing County and Silver Stage are tied for the fourth and final playoff seed, both with 5-6 league records with three games remaining.

While the Lakers have struggled to a 2-9 league record, they are not yet eliminated from the playoff picture. But they will need to win out against their three remaining opponents.

North Tahoe dominated the action against ROP (2-9 league, 3-14 overall) en route to the lopsided victory. ROP defeated North Tahoe by one point, 57-56, in their first meeting on Jan. 2.

Senior Miles Brandt scored 13 points, while Nick Joslin scored 12 points and Trent Lingruen had 11.

The Lakers hung with the Lions through one half. They trailed 19-7 after the first quarter but cut the deficit to five points with a 13-6 second quarter. Yerington outscored North Tahoe 23-15 in the third quarter and 25-10 in the fourth to pull away.

Senior forward Mitchell Myers led the Lakers with 13 points, Joslin added 10 points, Lingruen had nine points and Andy Morgan five. Junior big man Sam Hammond led Yerington with 17 points, and Bryan Ramirez had 16.

North Tahoe's girls (1-8, 2-16) also played Yerington (6-4, 10-11) tough in a 48-31 loss.

Shania Frank led Yerington with 14 points. North Tahoe's stats were not available.

The Lakers play at Silver Stage on Friday and host Pershing County on Saturday. North Tahoe ends the regular season with league games at Incline next Friday, Feb. 13.
