North Tahoe continues to dominate slopes

The high school alpine ski season continued on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort with a round of giant slalom racing.

For the second race in a row, Whittell's Payton Norton was the fastest on the race course, capturing first place with the two fastest times of the day. Norton would blast through the course on his opening run with a time more than a second faster than any racer. He'd go on to finish his second run nearly a second faster than any other skier, for a total time of 1 minute, 18.72 seconds.

Teammate Gunnar Barnwell finished in second place with a total time of 1:22.08. North Tahoe then had a trio of skiers finish with the next three fastest times. Guthrie Goss led the way with a time of 1:22.57 for third place, Oliver Fralick was next with a time of 1:23.08, followed by Thomas Mercogliano with a time of 1:23.63.

Truckee's top skier was Drew Dolan, who finished with a time of 1:31.26 for 14th place.

The North Tahoe boys took the team win and are undefeated as a squad this season.

On the girls' side, Incline's Belle Johnson captured first place with a total time of 1:22.63. Johnson sat in second place after her first run, but put together the day's fastest time in her second run to edge North Tahoe's Madnolia Neu by 0.27 seconds. North Tahoe's Madeleine Roberts set herself up well with the fastest opening run, but couldn't recreate those results in her final run, posting the sixth fastest second run of the day, to finish in third place overall, with a time of 1:23.09. The Lakers' Jillian Ferre was next in fourth with a time of 1:24.33, followed by Truckee's Susie Greeno in fifth place with a time of 1:24.45.
