What better place to tune up for the regional championships than the 67th Annual Mt. SAC Invitational?

The North Tahoe cross-country team traveled to Southern California this past Friday to compete in what is touted as the world's largest cross-country meet, with 25,000 runners and 115 races.

Despite the 90-plus-degree weather, the Lakers more than held their own, as their varsity boys and girls teams recorded fourth-place finishes in their respective Division 5 races. The boys race featured 180 runners from 22 schools. The girls race had 111 runners from 14 schools.

Senior Tara Gallant and sophomore Quinn Lehmkuhl led the Laker contingent. Gallant finished second, covering the hilly, 2.93-mile course in a time of 19:23.4. Brooke Trossen of Francis Parker took the win in 19:13.3, while Lehmkuhl placed third in 20:00.8.

Gallant and Lehmkuhl were trailed by teammates Kaya Williams in 21st (22:09), Camille Syben in 48th (23:42.1), Torrie Goldstone 70th (25:22.1) and Ingrid Roske 90th (26:42.2).

Freshman JC Schoonmaker led the North Tahoe boys with a 15th-place finish in a field of mostly juniors and seniors. He posted a time of 17:44.3.
